2009 OUTREACH Project

The ICTS Outreach Project provides ICTS attendance at workshops, conferences, and face-to-face meeting to promote the visibility of Telemetry issues to the engineering and scientific communities world-wide. Current project objectives are to 1) inform the international flight test community of the recent WRC2007 allocation for aeronautical telemetry and 2) seek their support to defend this allocation from encroachment anticipated at the next WRC (2011).

Most at risk is the new international TM band allocation of 5 091 to 5 150MHz (potential for conflict with WRC2011 agenda item 1.3).Our 2009 outreach goal is to inform the international telemetry community on the need to utilize and defend the WRC 2007 allocations.

2009

1. Aero-India 2009 (9-11Feb, Bangalore)

The ICTS was invited to present 2 papers at the Aero-India Conference in Bangalore. Team members authored papers on “Trends in Aeronautical Flight Test telemetry” and “The future of the EM Spectrum in Aeronautical Testing”. We had several follow-on meetings with personnel from the Indian National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR), Defense Electronics Application laboratory (DEAL), Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), and others. Several Indian contacts were added to the region 1 ICTS mailing list and potential follow-up meetings recommended.

2. Presentation at Rafeal (16 Feb, Tel Aviv)

Through our previous contacts with Rafeal, a meeting was set-up with Rafael, IAI, IAF, and the IDF. The meeting went very well with the audience well knowledgeable on flight test and telemetry and very interested in our message. We were lucky to have one of the Israeli WRC 2007 delegates attended with whom we talked to in Geneva during the WRC. We have also added a number of new Israeli contacts to the ICTS mailing list.

3. European Test and Telemetry Conference in Toulouse (Jun 23-25).

4. PACOM (Jul-Hawai’i),

5. International Telemetry Conference ITC (Oct, Las Vegas)

6. South Africa International Aeronautical Symposium (Nov-South Africa).

2010 Planned Activities

1. Aero-India (Feb- Bangalore)

2. SETE (May- Adelaide)

3. European Telemetry Conference (May-Munich).

4. PACOM (July-Hawai’i),

5. International Telemetry Conference ITC (Oct, San Diego)

6. South Africa International Aeronautical Symposium (tbd).

Desired Outreach Emphasis

(we need assistance to identify related forums/conferences in which to participate)

Japan, Indonesia, Argentina, Korea, and China

On behalf of the International Consortium for Telemetry Spectrum, I would like to invite you to participate outreach on a topic that is of great importance to the economy and security of nations. Almost all nations depend on aerospace research, development and industry for their future well-being. Access to sufficient spectrum for the purpose of telemetering critical scientific and engineering data from aeronautical vehicles is crucial to all nations.

The International Consortium for Telemetry Spectrum would like to participate in international workshops, symposiums, conferences, and meeting in order to inform global aerospace research and development leaders, national frequency management authorities and political leaders about the importance of Aeronautical Telemetry to all of us.

If you would like to recommend an ICTS visit to a conference or meeting in your nation, please contact the ICTS as soon as possible!
